Boat Ceramic Coating Built for Life on the Water
In The Clear Auto Marine applies professional boat ceramic coating for boat and yacht owners across South East Queensland. We do the work on-site at your marina berth, private pontoon or home. Constant sun, salt and marine grime slowly break down gel coat, leaving it faded, chalky and harder to clean. A marine-grade ceramic coating adds a durable protective layer over the prepared surface. It helps the surface resist UV, oxidation and staining, and makes every washdown easier. We’re accredited in System X and Starke Yacht Surface Technologies application, and we service Brisbane, the Gold Coast and the Sunshine Coast.
What Is Marine Ceramic Coating?
A ceramic coating is a liquid protective layer, hand applied to a polished and prepared surface, where it bonds and cures into a hard, slick finish. Unlike wax or polish, it doesn’t wash away after a few outings.
We use marine-grade ceramic systems designed for vessels, not repurposed automotive products. A boat faces conditions a car never will: constant moisture, salt spray, UV reflected off the water, and contamination from fish, birds and exhaust. The coating can protect surfaces above and below the waterline, including gel coat, painted surfaces and metalwork.
Why Protect Your Boat With a Ceramic Coating?
The traditional fix for a tired finish is a regular cut and polish. It works, but each cut removes a thin layer of gel coat, and there’s only so much of it to go around.
A boat ceramic coating changes that cycle. Once the surface is corrected and coated, we lightly polish and add another layer in later years instead of cutting back the gel coat again. Over time, the protection builds up rather than the original finish wearing down.
Properly maintained, it helps guard against:
- UV damage and colour fading
- Oxidation and gel coat dulling
- Saltwater stains and spotting
- Mineral deposits and hard-water marks
- Bird droppings, which can etch unprotected surfaces
- Fish residue and scum build-up
- Exhaust residue on the transom
- Acid rain etching
- Corrosion and pitting on metal surfaces
Our Boat Ceramic Coating Process
- Free On-Site Inspection
We check the vessel’s gel coat and paint condition, the level of oxidation, and any staining or damage. Then we give you a tailored quote. There’s no obligation, and we won’t recommend work your boat doesn’t need.
- Wash and Decontamination
We wash the surface thoroughly with marine-specific products to remove salt, scum, exhaust residue, water spots and bonded contaminants. A coating is only as good as the surface underneath it.
- Correction and Polishing
We correct oxidation, dullness and light defects through polishing. This restores clarity and colour before anything is locked in.
- Coating Application
The coating is hand applied and left to cure. We use marine-specific products only, with Starke Yacht Care, imported from Florida in the US, as our main range.
- Annual Inspections and Top-Ups
Annual inspections are included. Each year we check the coating, lightly polish where needed and top it up so the protection keeps performing.

Benefits for Boat Owners
Easier Cleaning
Grime, salt and fish residue have less to grip on a coated surface, so maintenance washdowns are faster and take less effort.
A Deeper, Longer-Lasting Finish
A coated hull holds its gloss and colour far longer than an unprotected one exposed to Queensland sun.
Less Gel Coat Removal Over Time
Topping up the coating each year means fewer aggressive cut and polish sessions thinning the gel coat.
Long-Term Protection
On a new boat, an average installation lasts around six to seven years with annual inspections and top-ups.

Boat Ceramic Coating FAQs
How long does a boat ceramic coating last?
On a new boat, an average install lasts around six to seven years. Annual inspections and top-ups are essential to reach that lifespan, which is why they’re part of our coating service.
Is ceramic coating better than a cut and polish?
They do different jobs. Cut and polish removes oxidation by taking off a thin layer of gel coat. Ceramic coating protects the surface once it has been corrected. After that, maintenance is a light polish and a fresh layer rather than repeated cutting.
Can an older boat be ceramic coated?
In many cases, yes. Older gel coat usually needs more correction before coating, so preparation takes longer. We’ll assess its condition during the free on-site inspection and tell you honestly whether coating is worthwhile.
Can you apply the coating at my marina?
Yes. We work at marinas and are fully insured, with the correct tickets and licences. We can also coat your boat at home or on a private pontoon with good access, power and water.
How do I look after a coated boat?
Regular washdowns with marine-appropriate products keep the coating performing. We check and top it up at your annual inspection. We also offer maintenance visits if you’d prefer us to handle it.
What do I need to do before you arrive?
Just remove personal items, tenders and boards from the vessel. That lets our team move around safely and reach every surface.
